la-dee-dah
"La-dee-dah", that pretty much sums up how I feel at the moment. Not too much going on, but too much going on all at the same time, does that make any sense? Regardless, I'm moving right along.
I've been trying to do a little sewing to update the shop, remember, I used to have an etsy shop? Way back at the beginning of the year I made a vow only to spend on fabric what I made by selling in the shop. Boy, have I ever left that one behind! I'm real excited about these new bags, made in the style of the daisy button bag, but it sure is taking me a long time. Who knew the addition of a pleated pocket to the front would be so labor intensive. Sheesh! I had planned on starting out with 6 fall colored bags, but as of now I only have 3 partially finished. I also have a few bags that I made earlier this spring/summer that I plan to list. Two of them I made for myself, used for a very brief time, then decided that I didn't want them. I threw those two in the wash (they washed beautifully), pressed them, and now they're as good as new. Do you think that's weird - me listing those? The other bag is a pleated purse that I made for a friend, but she never got back in touch with me to purchase it. Oh well, her loss.
I know, 6 measly purses isn't much of an update, but that's something. I'm really not cut out to 'sew for sale'. I much prefer to sew for myself or for gifts, but sometimes I get the urge to make something that I don't need, like 6 pleated pocket purses! I'll let you know when I do update - it may be next week or next month, who knows.
Before I forget, I was tagged last week my Linda for the Craft Meme, so here it goes:
Four choices--list crafts that you are familiar with, in the categories you'd choose.
- Love it! This is my thing. Sewing, of course! I really do love anything to do with fabric. I like sewing for myself, my kids, my home, and accessories.
- I do or have dabbled in it. Crochet, knitting, embroidery, card making, stamping, painting, jewelry making, and quilting. Unfortunately, I don't have enough time to devote to any of them. I can only do so much!
- I'll give it a try. Photography - this is something I have an interest in, but have never really explored. I'd also like to try making pottery. Oh yeah, there's also printing on fabric - I'm very interested on this, but have no idea where to even begin.
- I've got absolutely no interest. I'm afraid that I'm going to offend lots with this one, but scrapbooking is something that I really have no interest in. I've tried it in the past, but I can't get into it. I guess I'd have to lump collage into that category as well. I do admire those who do scrapbook and make beautiful collages, but I don't have that talent. But who knows, I used to have no interest in knitting, and look at me now!
I think I'm supposed to tag 4 people to do this, so the first 4 people to comment on this post, go for it, if you want to, that is.

I'm hoping to open an etsy shop soon. My justification to my boyfriend being the "I'll only buy fabric once I've sold something" Yeah right.
The thing about crafts is you may hate it one day and like it the next. You just need to find the right thing to inspire you to learn it.

Oh my gosh. I'm not sure if I can do the meme -- most of your answers are MY answers!!!!!! I can't believe (yet I do believe) how similar we are!!

6 bags is a GREAT update! I made anything specifically for the shop in a while...
So are you going to put in the description that they are used? I've wondered the same thing myself, but have been too chicken to do it. :o)

I'M with ya on the scrapbooking and collage, although I do like some paper crafts. Very, very cute the button bag!

Hi - I saw your comment on Absolutely Beautiful Things about wanting white slipcovers, but you have to wait until the little ones are gone. You know - slipcovers are FOR little kids!!! I have them all over my house with two dogs and all and I wash my sofa like it was a pair of jeans. Everything in my house is clean, even when it rains outside with the dogs, becuase you wash slipcovers. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you to think about getting them if you want. Now's the time when your kids are little.

great fabrics! I have the pineapplish one (like what you have in red/cream and black/tan), in brown & cream--I think it may have been a tablecloth. Any idea what it's made of? I think they'll be great for bags.

Look at the beautiful fabrics! 6 bags of such quality and design is a good update, in my opinion. :0)

Pleats do take up so much time! I was amazed. Lately it has taken me forever to sew up a bag. But I'll finish one tonight. (I hope!)

I love these fabrics, beautiful! I have to agree with you, so not a scrapbooker! I think blogging is my new scrapbooking. -kb

I am totally with you on the difficulties of sew-to-sell. I find myself wanting to keep all of the items I make instead of selling them.
Posted by:Rachel | August 30, 2007 at 07:36 AM
That's it, you don't like scrapbooking? I'm never coming here again! Just kidding. :) Looking forward to seeing the new bags!

I'm so jealous of those fabrics, I'm trying not to shop until I use up my stash, it's so hard!
And I can relate to how you feel about scrapbooking, my SIL loves it, I just don't have the knack for it.

Gretings from Portugal.
You have a beautiful and interesting blog; nice to see and nice to read!
Cheers!

I can never motivate myself to "sew for sale". My husband has encouraged me to do so many times, but I get started and just loose my insperation and give everything away as gifts!!! If friends ask me to make something for them I always end up doing it for free, I have a hard time asking them to pay.
I don't think it's weird to sell a slightly used bag. That just gives it more character!!!

Oh, those fabrics are amazing!
About the bags that were lightly used... I see no problem about selling them on etsy, although I would probably mention that you used them a few times in the description.
And I'm so with you on the scrapbooking!

I think six bags is a great update! I'm still trying to finish one totebag! The fabrics are terrific and can't wait to see what the final bags turn out like.
Posted by:kat | August 30, 2007 at 10:57 AM
We should join forces then, because I have tons to do and no get-up-and-go to get it done!
Ooo... looks like those bags are going to be lovely. I don't think there's anything wrong with selling "used" bags.
And I agree with you about scrapbooking, but I think it's because I've never really tried it. Plus, it just seems all too commercial, with pre-cut shapes and stickers and all that.
Posted by:Sarah | August 30, 2007 at 11:22 AM
I'm loving the fabric you're going to use for those bags, very pretty. I'm another one who just can't get into scrapbooking, even though I make a lot of cards etc!
Posted by:Queen Bee | August 30, 2007 at 01:18 PM
I think that if you sell the used purses on etsy that you should mention it, just to be honest about it. Otherwise I see no problem.
Still loving the daisy bag. It's gorgeous and I can't imagine the time that went into making it. It looks perfect.
I am not a scrapbooker either. I tried it, didn't excell at it. Decided to leave it behind. I hate it that you will never ever ever be done. Quilting takes a LONG time, but at least at some point you are done.

Thats a cool meme, I have not seen it before.
I don't think it is too weird to list those bags if you only used them a couple times, maybe just state that in the description?

I think that's a pretty impressive update Beki! I just love your fabric choices, so bright and cheery as usual!
As for scrapbooking I too have to admit I am not a big fan!

ohmigoodness i love those fabrics. I'm having major fabric envy lately!
Posted by:Katie | August 31, 2007 at 08:15 AM
love those fabrics!!! can't wait to see the bags. you could call the used bags as pre-shrunk like they do with clothes!!!

Wow! What beautiful fabric. I always enjoy looking at your blog. I just recently decided to do my own. Being inspired by all of the lovely blogs I read, yours included. I am also from South Louisiana and we spoke briefly before by email. Check out my blog if you dare...(remember I'm still learning how to use it) Terry

Love your fabrics. What is the white with green leaves? I need to recover my dining chairs and am looking for options.

Beki, the fabrics are delicious!

That daisy bag is the CUTEST! Love the colors, and the perfect red buttons for the center of the flowers!

That fabric is fabulous! Love it.
Posted by:Beki | September 02, 2007 at 11:34 PM
Oooh! That fabric is nice. I don't see anything wrong listing those purses as long as they are like new. Can't wait to see what else you have in store for, you know, the store:)

He he he! I'm glad to find out I'm not the only one who's not into scrapbooking...don't know why. I'm just not interested.
Love your fabrics, by the way....and do I see a scrap of japanese? :-)

I'm with ya on the scrapbooking thing! I do ooh and ahh over other peoples work, but I just can't do it myself! How is it we can work magic with fabric, but not scrapbooking? I'm terrible at it. Maybe because i don't like it enough to really get into it deeply, like I keep thinking, how much more fun I'd have if I were sewing! LOL.
