thriftin' + moo

Img_0086
I didn't plan on going to the thrift store today.  My plan was to stop in at the yarn shop to pick up some circular needles and some yarn to start on a hat.  You can imagine my surprise when there was a "For Lease" sign in front of the store and a note on the door.  I pulled in to read the note.  Thankfully, they're not closing, but moving to a new location.  Whew!  I was relieved, but mad because I couldn't buy anything!!  So, with shopping on my mind, I went to the thrift store.  I didn't do as well as usual, but it wasn't bad.  Pictured above are two sheets and three pillowcases (there are 2 of the polka dots).

Better than the linens was this big lot of trims and zippers.  A few of these are really cool, like that navy & white rick-rackish bias trim right on top.  All these are sitting on a 4 yard piece of rust colored twill, which was a steal.

I haven't only been spending my cash on thrift stuff, I also received my new MOO cards and stickers this week.  I love MOO!  This is my second set of cards, my first set of stickers.  They both turned out great.

Okay, I think I've spent enough moolah on myself this week.  Shhhh, don't tell Matt!!  What he doesn't know won't hurt him.

I won't tell. Happy thrifting, my friend.

I would have fainted if I saw that lot of trim!!! Great score Beki!!

I love your thrifting finds - we have been so picked over here lately. It's nice to know someone is still finding good things...

you know, i never thought about going to thrift stores to look for fabric, but I'll bet you can find some great things there!!! thats an awesome idea! oh and congrats on your scarf! I still haven't finished mine from last year. Pathetic, i know!

What great finds. When I go to the thrift store, all I ever find is junk :-(

Wow! Great stuff! I think the thrifting gene passed me by. I come from strong thrifting stock, but I never have any luck. Sigh.

I love that yellow polka dot pillowcase. And Moo too.

I LOVE the polka dot pillowcases - nice score!

The polka dots are very cool!

I swear, you sewing ladies get to use the most fun supplies ever! That ric rac-y bias trim is awesome. SCORE!

Love all that ric rac! What a find :)
I love all the moo cards + stickers too. So cute!

Moo cards are so cool. I just ordered some a few nights ago! Good trim find too! I scored on a bunch of zippers, trim and buttons today- maybe I'll post about them since I've got nothing else.

Ooooo, I didn't know Moo had stickers! That could spell trouble for me!

What do you use your moo cards for?

I'm loving that polka dot pillow case!! I need to get to the thrift stores more - unfortunately they aren't found in suburbia in this particular city. It's quite a drive for me. Sigh.

I got that same polka dot sheet in lime and then another one in gold--at two different thrift stores! It must very popular. But I never find rickrack or trim. Cool.

Love the yellow polka dots. The trim was a major score, good for you!!!

now that is my kind of haul!!! way to go girlie. i think i will be breaking down soon and buying into MOO.

I LOVE the polka dots! I think I would surround myself with them if my husband would raise such a fuss...*sigh* :)

hehe...that should be "wouldn't" raise such a fuss...

What do you do with those moo cards and stickers?

i saw the polka dot pillow cases and thought, dang you. and then the trim had me swearing. i am just jealous, i swear! i am really happy for you beki. wished i lived in your neighborhood.

Moo cards! I really need to order some of those. What do you use yours for?

thrifting is my therapy...you found some great things!

Wahoo! Great finds! I found one of those same, all blue floral pillow cases last week. And you know what's cool about that? I have a photo of me as a a little bitty thing, asleep on the very same pillowcase!

I love the polka dots! You must have way better thrift stores than we do here (actually we don't have one here, the closest is about an hour away). So what do you do with the moo cards anyway?

Great thrift finds. I have the blue flowers on blue pillowcases and they are some of my favorites, so soft.

great finds! i too, am new to knitting and my next project is a hat that my husband bought for me from kpixie last christmas. i have just been too scared to try it!

Oohh I didn't know that Moo did stickers too!

Great Finds!!!! and I sooooo love your Moo cards and stickers too (I love stickers).

love your thrifting finds! that lot of trims is fantastic.

Ok, what is MOO and what do you use the cards and stickers for? Sorry if you've talked about this in a prior post, but I don't remember it if you did!

Look at all that trim! I think you did quite well! And 4 yards of twill? That will be great for handbag makin'. I'm lovin' the ric-rac bias trim. I've never seen that before.

Oh such treasures Beki. I went thrifting too but didn't luck out like you. Love the rick rack!

Such super finds! That's a lot of great loot there--LOL! Can't wait to see what you make with it all. Oh, and your first knit project is terrific--love that yarn you used for your scarf. Your moos are wonderful too. Such a fun post. Happy weekend to you & yours! ((HUGS))

Such great stuff you are finding lately!!! Love it all, but you already know I have a special place in my heart for trims and ric rack. *wink*

Hi, what brill finds...love the trimmings and the sheets. Your shock at seeing the shop closed reminds me of this week when I went to our local haberdashers only to find it was half-day closing...Arghhhh!!!
Margaret and Noreen at THY

Lucky, lucky girl! I'm still waiting for the lucky thrifting mojo to get to me....every time I venture out all I see are the dregs.

Love the polka dots! Thats an awesome haul! If I ever come back to the US thrifting is on top of my list, thats an awesome haul!

I think I gotta get me some MOO goodness soon.

Great haul! Im in love with the moo stickers, I havent seen those...super cute!

Hey Beki!

You're going to be so proud of me! I actually got brave and tried that tutorial to put in a zipper at the top of my latest purse. I was able to tweak it with an idea that came to my head, and I didn't have to take the zipper apart! It worked, and it looks so nice. There are photos on my post. If you want me to tell you how I did it, let me know, and I'll try my best!

Pleased the yarn shop is only moving, a lot are closing round here despite the boom in knitting!!! As for your goodies, well what can I say about your thrifting skills, you get the best bits that's for sure.
Moo, love them little cards...and now stickers:-)
Suzie Sews

Great stuff Beki! I have that same exact yellow polka dot pillowcase and sheet from the thrift store!

Isn't that amazing how some thrift stores have tons of cool stuff and some have nutin'? We went to one in Hastings, MI and scored a few fun things. No pics, but my girls and I were happy. (mostly we're on the lookout for yarn!)
Paula

That a girl...now I won't look so, um...crazy...collecting sheets like I own a hotel!!! I knew there were more like me out there!

You always find such great things at the thrift store! Love the moo cards & stickers! What will you end up using the stickers for?

Love the ricrac and trim! That's one of my weaknesses.
What are MOO cards and stickers? Oh, something I have never heard of!

Looks GREAT!! I can't wait to get my Moo cards.
