2007 goals in review
It's that time again, time to look back and reflect on this past year. Back in January 2007 I gave myself some goals to accomplish in the upcoming year. Let's see how I did:
2007 Goals:
- get to pre-pregnant weight yep
- eat healthier foods uh, I did that for the first half of the year
- include more physical activity another one I did for a little while
- make time for me yeah, I did this for the most part
- sell something from my etsy shop yay, I definitely did this one!!
- be more open to requests for making things another yep!
- take a class to learn something new or improve on something I already know I never did get around to this one, but I did learn to knit - I guess that sort of counts
- get comfortable with using my industrial sewing machine oh yeah, Richelle and I are BFF, remember?
- master zippers I don't know if I'd call it master, but I am quite comfortable with zippers
- use more of my “good” fabric stash yes, I did this, but it's still hard to let some of them go
- purchase less fabric (set a budget and stick to it) ugh, I definitely did NOT do this one - I failed miserably!!
- make more of my own clothing At first I thought I didn't accomplish this, but when I thought more about it I remembererd that I made 3 skirts and 2 tops for myself, along with 2 jumpers for Ava - not too bad
- make more gifts check
- give more things away, be more generous overall I think I did this, at least I tried to
- get my kids on a bedtime schedule this is an on again, off again battle, but we're definitely improved from last year
- devise a house cleaning plan never happened
- grow a garden I wish
- get organized with bill paying still working on this
- make a meal chart yeah, right! does making a list of take-out restaurants count?
- have friends over to dinner not once
- establish a date night we did have more dates, but we didn't have a specific set time
- spend more one on one time with each child another one I failed at, thought now that Ava is a little older, this is easier to accomplish
The 'Year of the House' Goals:
- kitchen (paint cabinets, remove tile floor) in progress!!
- kids' bathroom (repair sheetrock, paint walls, make roman shade) nope
- master bedroom (new bedding, paint walls) unfortunately, no
Not too bad, I don't think. Out of the 25 things I listed, I whole heartedly accomplished 12 of them, half way did 4 and failed at 9. As long as I achieve or semi-achieve at least 50% of my goals, I call it a success. This year puts me at 64%. Hmm, perhaps I should up my percentage? I think I'll shoot for a 75% success rate next year!
I'm sure this bored you to tears, but I think this is kind of fun, hee-hee! Now it's time to start thinking about my 2008 goals...

I thought it was interesting! Well done on achieving so much - I always set my targets so high that I never achieve anything! I therefore don't know if I dare go public on my aims for 2008! I'll think about it though! Lucy x

That was quite a comprehensive list! You're so much more ambitious than I am. :) I'm not brave enough to put it out there in public.
I can personally vouch for your generosity. You're one of the most open-hearted people I've met in blogland.

Great list. I'm putting mine up tomorrow and then Jan 1st will be my new years list. Glad to you accomplished so much. Happy New Year.

Very interessting! I'm starting to think about mine. The list always starts with "lose 10 pounds"!

It was your list last year that motivated me to do one of my own - I haven't looked back at it in a while though. Perhaps it's time to check in.

Oooh, you did very well! You might even inspire me to do more than my usual airy-fairy goal lists. I still need to get to my pre-pregnant weight. He he he!

You set a lot of goals for one year, just accomplishing 1 of them is wonderful IMO!
Posted by:Amanda | December 30, 2007 at 05:21 PM
You did great. I think your score is actually better, because, really, some goals are worth more than others. Good for you! I am working on some for myself for 2008!

Pretty darn good! You certainly did better than I did -- when I look back at my 2007 list I'm appalled at how far astray I went!
Posted by:Thimbleanna | December 30, 2007 at 05:50 PM
nope not boring, it is good to look back and be honest about what was accomplished and what needs work still. Your goals sound a lot like mine!
Posted by:Stefanie | December 30, 2007 at 06:31 PM
That's really good, Beki! I'm not even going to address my goals b/c I'm pretty sure I failed at over half of them!

"give more things away, be more generous overall" -- I vouch for you that this was a success!!!!! :-)

What a great thing to reflect upon...I need to make mine for 2008...I want this to be a great year comming up.

you should be patting yourself on the back for accomplishing all that you did! wow! congrats, beki.

Thanks for sharing your goals and results. Gives me motivation to put mine on paper!

NOt boring at all. I enjoyed reading your goals and seeing how you did. Have to admit it, it's nice to see that most of us aren't going to meet every goat we set. Of course, if we didn't set them, we might not meet any of them. I think you did great with your goals! (especially the weight thing! I can't seem to make any progress there)

Nice candid reflection! I'm impressed you were able to find last years resolutions. That's an accomplishment in itself. Pat yourself on the back for that one!

interesting! it was fun reading...thanks for sharing it.

I thought this was fun to read. Certainly didn't bore me to tears. And I'm pretty impressed with how much you did accomplish. I made a list like this for myself. Uh, not sure I want to put it in print :-)

I can vouch for your generousity. I was the recipient of a very lovely hand sewn gift and note book! I am impressed by all the things you have accomplished.
Happy New Year Beki!

I totally understand not being able to give up your good fabrics... its so funny that we are like that...and everytime I go to the fabric store I stock up on fabric that I dont even know what I will use it for...hummm.. yeah we have a problem. i like it!:)
Posted by:Stephanie | December 31, 2007 at 08:22 AM
Well, I think you accomplished way more things on your list than I did! Way to go Beki!
Posted by:Rachel | December 31, 2007 at 09:34 AM
I'm amazed that you have a list from that long ago still! I can't recall what I wanted to accomplish, except that one thing was to lose 50 pounds(I lost 12). Our 2007 was pretty much filled with sick and dying pets so I'm hoping for a MUCH better 2008. My goal is just to enjoy it, and lose the rest of that weight.LOL
And, yes, definitely count knitting as learning something new even if it wasn't a class. I'm a self-taught crocheter and count that as one of my very best accomplishments, EVER!! Knitting is much harder to learn, trust me!

Great job... and I wouldnt say you failed at the things you never even started, right? LOL

On the contrary, I love reading this stuff. Hey, you had a great year, goal-wise! That's an awfully long success list. Here's to more of the same in the coming year. :)

Oh Geeze, I went through the memory lane. Made me laugh and smile and want to cry just a bit. I had my last baby at 35. I am 45, so she is 10. I want more, sort of:) My best friend, my niece is your age. I loved your lists and post over this year. You are so cute and so are your little ones. I am always so struck by all the similarities that us bloggers have. I enjoy your blog and crafts and look forward to 2008 and sharing. Happy New Years Beki:)

Thanks for sharing your goals and how you got on with them. I think you did really well.

Those home improvement goals are tough. And if you want to try with the meal planning thing again this year, I'd be happy to share what works for us - because nothing sucks worse than coming home from a full day of work and staring into the cupboard and thinking "what are we going to have for dinner?" by the time if figure out what to make it could have already been prepared and half eaten.

oh my gosh that is some list! you should feel successful at admiting you need to do so much, i am in total denial(even though ever single thing on your list could apply to me!) looks like you did a great job!

Nice job! I think I need to make a private list for myself now. =) I use to print out a spreadsheet and check off the bills that I had paid, but now I keep it on my computer, and enter the amount I paid. There are lots of free little softwares out there, or use a spreadsheet software and make your own. Maybe I will post one... hmm... If I can figure out how. *Housecleaning... that was on my list last year... I'd say I failed at that. Found a good book though, Martha Stewart Homekeeping handbook. Huge, but has good stuff in it.
* Garden... mine needs a huge clean up factor. I have tried to maintain it, but it's hard when you have little ones. So, this year, she's bigger, and I hope to clean it up. Sorry now, that I didn't clip off more seed heads... I'll be paying for it come spring. =(
Sorry for the novel post. =)
