slacker advent
As much as I would have liked to have made an adorable, festive, advent calendar, I didn't have it in me. The thought of coming up with three little treats every day from December 1st through Christmas made my head hurt. So, I took the slacker route and bought a chocolate filled advent calendar for each of my kiddos. I figured that my kids would be happy with this. And they were.
Alex was a little too happy with it. This is what we found yesterday morning. He did this after we all went to bed. Alex, my middle child, my only boy, the spice in my life. What am I going to do with this kid??
Thank goodness I bought an extra, just in case.

I had to giggle! I had our choc advent calenders on display on the shelf until Elijah (2) found them! I was on the scene before he got into them, but, they are now off display on the TOP of the bookshelf!
Boys, don't you love them!!!???

I just had to stop in and say that picture of the robbed advent calendar made me laugh right out loud when I saw it.
I love your blog and read it every day!

yes, the advent calendar made me laugh too!, my youngest is struggling with the whole one chocolate a day idea and won't leave the playmobil one alone either much to his sisters annoyance!

I agree about going with the slacker route. I am condsidering picking some up at Michaels. I don't thinking my sewing table can take one more "in the works" project.

I saw that calendar and couldn't help but laugh. That is too funny! I struggle with the whole one chocolate a day thing. I actually have my husband hide it from me... hahaha

Of course he couldn't help himself!! Too funny!
That reminds me of the year my mom made these covered buttons for my daughter's shirt (the kind that slip over an existing button) but used little peppermint candies (spray coated with sealant). My daughter ate everything but the metal when I wasn't looking. Ugh.

Oh my goodness, that is just too funny! The little choc-aholic!
My sister always buys the boys chocolate advent calendars from Trader Joe's and they think they're the best thing ever.

That sounds just like something my son, our middle child and only boy, would do!! We went the paper chain route this year.

I have two boys and one girl, I love naughty little boys, they grow up into funloving teenagers. Boys = grey hair, but I promise you will look back and laugh!!

I think that's too too funny - I knew there was a reason for keeping mine on top of the fridge. In our house, it would be the dog who would rip into them and then tear around the house like a wild thing.
Maybe I'll make them in January for next year. That's the ticket!

maybe he's just extra excited for Christmas and thinks if he eats all the chocolate it will come sooner. Or he's just a boy after my own heart and loves chocolate!!

How lucky are your kids! They each get their own calendar. My sister, brother and I had to share one (ONE!). I love that your son didn't touch his sister's calendars, showing self restraint. Well, sort of.

i'm all over the slacker calendar this year too.
Posted by: heidi | December 04, 2007 at 08:19 PM
Perfect!! You gotta love them boys!

My little brother (child #3) would steal our Hershey Kisses off the advent calendar when we weren't looking. At least he only tore into his calendar!

That is so funny! That sounds like something that one of my boys would do!!! Ha ha! Those advents are so cool - they are like the vintage ones we had as kids. I didn't know that they still made them. Where did you get them?
Posted by: Zoe | December 04, 2007 at 08:54 PM
That is too funny, I am still laughing. I don't think my kids ever got that excited, it's a good thing they are not too expensive.

that is totally something my youngest daughter would do! made me laugh.
Posted by: Rachel | December 04, 2007 at 09:04 PM

Very funny! I made one this year - but at least I'll never have to do it again!

Hee hee - I would have done the same thing. Hmmm wait a minute...I did do the same thing. I even posted all about it. Alex is a smart boy...waiting until you went to bed. I bet he was up half the night bouncing off the walls!!!

Oh my gosh I can't believe you thought to buy an extra! Very, very wise! That's just too funny.

My mum always picks up a chocolate calendar for the kids every year and they enjoy it immensely, I guess we are slackers too!
Posted by: tamara | December 05, 2007 at 12:25 AM
We are a chocolate advent calender family too.I could face coming up with 24 x 4 little somethings.

Hilarious! That is so funny! :)

ooooh, that is too funny. So nice the first picture and then ripped apart the next.

So funny! I didn't buy the chocolate Advent calendars this year... and the kids seem a little disappointed!
Posted by: julie | December 05, 2007 at 07:12 AM
Too funny about your Alex! I was a slacker and did the Martha Stewart advent calendar that was on sale at Michael's for $9.00. My 15 yr old and 6 yr old put it together and I bought
m&m's and mini peanut butter cups to fill it. talk about lame!
Posted by: Paula | December 05, 2007 at 07:44 AM
LOL! What will poor Alex do now? He won't know when Christmas is here and just might miss it!
I had big plans to make advent calendars this year too but it was not to be. My kids are currently enjoying their selections of cheap chocolate from a paper calendar as well. Maybe next year I'll get it together in time.

LOL mason made a chain link and he peels one off everyday..he seems to be happy with that...for this year at least
you just have to laugh at him....he's a boy!!
Posted by: greta adams | December 05, 2007 at 09:32 AM
LOL. He's definitely a boy, Beki! ::giggle, giggle::
Carter (#2) used to come down in the middle of the night, turn on the Christmas tree lights, TV and eat Christmas cookies.

That's so funny! I would have never thought to buy any extra. Lucky Alex!

He he this made me think of the time my 13 yr old was in 1st grade ... I sent a hershey kiss chocolate thing for the 8th grader that walked him to the bus. The little stinker ate it and didn't give it to the 8th grade boy! Yikes...boys! (mine's in the middle of two girls as well..gotta love em).
Posted by: Paula | December 05, 2007 at 11:24 AM
Heee heeee!!! Oh, B! That is the funniest thing I've seen all day! I can't wait to have a boy. :)
Posted by: jennifer at oink ric rac | December 05, 2007 at 11:34 AM
Lol! So funny. I love how it's completely torn apart. I grew up in a family of girls and even if we had the guts to steal from the advent calendar, I'm sure we would have neatly opened each door (and then closed each one to conceal our crime!)
Posted by: Julie | December 05, 2007 at 11:47 AM
it's always the middle one isn't it? so funny!
Posted by: carrie | December 05, 2007 at 12:04 PM
Must be a boy thing. My four year old has shaken his so much that most have either fallen out or are "floating" inside the box. We did tell him that if he ate more than one a day the rest would disappear. That at least is working for now. I"m hoping to make one next year I even have kit for one.
Posted by: Janey | December 05, 2007 at 12:04 PM
what a riot! I guess you know them well since you bought the extra! :o)

Love the chocolate advent calendar. You are so not the slacker mom!
Sneaky little fella.
Posted by: Jade | December 05, 2007 at 02:05 PM
OMG funny. I just did a slacker mom post about how we bought the Lego advent calendar instead of a homemade. My son loves it so I'm off the hook. :) That photo is priceless!

that's awesome. very sweet he didnt try to hide it!!
Posted by: Dacia | December 05, 2007 at 07:43 PM
Haha, that cracks me up. You know sometimes its ok, absolutely ok, to take a little short cut. Sometimes, actually a lot of the time, I will change or make up a new activity and swap it out because I just cannot muster the gumption to take on the activity that I planned for that day. ( I have a lot of little toys just for this reason. I'm lame with good intentions:)
