hmmmm...
Looks like "painting master bedroom" just got moved up in the list of priorities. That's permanent marker. Green permanent marker. After my attempts to clean it off. Thank goodness they didn't decide to color on my coverlet with it (it did come off the mirror frame for the most part). Life with small children is never dull, is it?

Ooooh...that hurts.
Did you try Magic Eraser? It got red permanent marker off my eggshell paint.
Good luck!

falling on the floor here. Been there, done that. Sharpie on hardwood floors. But hey - call it motivation! Like you need any more of that....

I don't know, those look like flower stems to me. Maybe, a mural?????
Posted by: Shelly | January 15, 2008 at 06:12 PM
Oh my gosh.... you have to try Mr. Clean magic eraser... I bet you will get it off with that. Those things are REALLY amazing! Let me know if you try them and if it works.

*winces* Ah well. Picking paint colors is fun.

Go to the office supply store ask fro Dry erase board cleaner spray it on that and clean the wall. Test in a small spot first as it is a strong cleaner and does remove permanent marker but I don't want it to hurt your paint more. I have used it with good results. Might work for you depending on the quality of your paint. Good paint usually works great cheep paint not as great much but still works pretty good.

I second using a Magic Eraser -it's wonderful in getting out some of the hardest marks on walls.
Posted by: stacysews | January 15, 2008 at 06:22 PM
Oh dear... my kids have been there, done that. So I so hear your pain :) Magic eraser works really well... but it might take off the paint a bit. {all my paint is benjamin moore... but still affected the paint} Good luck!

We have blue sharpie all over one of our hallway walls so I understand what you are going through. Well anyway we tried the magic eraser and it didn't work so well. We have textured walls so it didn't get all the marker in the grooves. The worst part is that the wall where I scrubbed with the eraser is now a different texture (it is like the wall has been lightly sanded) and it is very apparent when coming down the hall. I would love to know if you find something that works (other than repainting which we will probably end up doing too).
Posted by: Tamara | January 15, 2008 at 06:44 PM
Ah, yes. It's brown Sharpie on red walls in our house. Mr. Clean wouldn't touch it. I did find out that Go-Jo industrial hand cleaner will get it out of carpet, though...

Been there. Try Magic Eraser! Kids are so much fun- right?
Posted by: Missy | January 15, 2008 at 06:55 PM
i'm with the magic eraser. i don't know what's in those things, but they are really amazing at getting off stuff that i thought would never come off!
p.s. i hope that you got what i left on your doorstep! :)

A magic eraser just took Red permanent marker off my hardwood floors this morning (accidental overzealous coloring that soaked through the paper). Did you try one of those??
Posted by: stacy | January 15, 2008 at 07:02 PM
I feel your pain. When my son was about two years old he climbed to the top shelf of my closet, (where I had all my art supplies), and he decided to fingerpaint my hallway in pink and black! Children! Gotta love them! (If they are your own, LOL.)
Posted by: AJ | January 15, 2008 at 07:04 PM
Same over here with the Magic Eraser! If anyone knows what kind of juju is in those things please let me know! Then again, maybe I don't want to know.
Posted by: Rachel | January 15, 2008 at 07:30 PM
I am trying not to laugh at your pain since Karma is a butt head and with having a little one myself I know that day will come soon enough!
Posted by: Stefanie | January 15, 2008 at 07:42 PM
Did you try rubbing alcohol? I know I've used rubbing alcohol to remove sharpie from plastic or metal. But maybe that trick only works on non-porous surfaces.
Posted by: Michelle | January 15, 2008 at 07:48 PM
um... i can't decide if i should say "yay! painting" or "hells no! permanent marker?!"
Posted by: capello | January 15, 2008 at 08:01 PM
Try the Mr Clean Magic Eraser. We have removed black Sharpie with that.... Congratulations on your 500th post! I had to seriously resist trying for the givaway, but I figured since I have become merely a lurker, I figured that wouldn't be fair. Oooooh, how I covet the winner of that babe-bag though! Oh my! When I finally get bag cash, there are ALWAYS choices in your shop I am drooling over!! Anyhoo, I've been quiet but I check up on you all the time (Berkley has been in my prayers) -- I'm just finally popping in to wave! :) Good luck with the wall!

You know, I have these labels that use a permanent marker. They can be erased with the white eraser that came in the pack. I think a white art eraser would be exactly the same thing. You have nothing to lose. Good luck.

When we were little my brother "decorated" the neighbours boat and mailbox.
Posted by: Tinkerblue | January 15, 2008 at 10:05 PM
I agree with the Magic Eraser recommendation. It took permanent marker (multi-colored; she used the whole package!) off my stairwell walls.
Posted by: Holly | January 15, 2008 at 10:19 PM
Eeeek! Diffidently try the magic eraser, but be careful, I've had it take off paint before. If you really want to paint anyway, this is a good excuse huh?
Posted by: Melissa | January 15, 2008 at 10:39 PM
At least you can repaint the walls. Our friend's little girl (3 at the time) drew on his brand new flat-screen tv. He managed to get most of the marks off but some is still there. This of course occurred within the first week of getting it set up. Needless to say, his patience was sorely tried that day.

Try toothpaste and damp rag. A trick I learned in the Navy with marks. These are the small trials of life. Looks like you have creative kids. Ü
Posted by: Marcia | January 15, 2008 at 11:00 PM
oh dear. tsk tsk.
kids sure make life interesting. :D
Posted by: Myam | January 15, 2008 at 11:58 PM
What? You are going to paint over that lovely artwork? :o)
Yes the Magic eraser might take off the marker but it might also take off the paint too. Try it out in an inconspicuous spot first. I didn't do this first and it took off the paint! Good luck.
Posted by: erin s | January 16, 2008 at 12:05 AM
Yep, I got green permanent marker on carpet in 2 rooms and on one kitchen cabinet. Too bad we aren't changing the flooring anytime soon! They'd probably draw on that as well!!!

Hi, I'm sure everyone with children has experienced this. When he was little our eldest son found a loose bit of wallpaper by his cot and had great fun tearing off pieces. Good luck with trying to erase it...sounds like it may be possible!

one day? when i had a wee baby and a two-year-old? the eldest had me so worked up, that i sent him to his room so that i wouldn't lose my shitz. i shut the door for a few minutes. apparently, when his father had fallen asleep on the bed while putting him to sleep, he had left one of his work shirts on the floor. ergo, sharpie sharpie sharpie dresser dresser inside dresser wall window bed wall window window wall.
i called daddy and told him it was an emergency. he came home right away. *grin*

looks like your kids are creative at finding ways to motivate you.
Posted by: Laura P | January 16, 2008 at 07:52 AM
yikes! One day Isaiah grabbed a marker and wrote all over our dining room floor. Luckily it's gray laminate and it blends in!
Posted by: Katie | January 16, 2008 at 07:52 AM
Don't you just love it when your kids create another job for you to do???
Posted by: Sherah | January 16, 2008 at 07:57 AM
That is bringing back "LOTS" of memories of when my kids were small.
Posted by: Judy | January 16, 2008 at 08:02 AM
oh, my!
good luck.

Eek. I hope you didn't paint recently!

Oooooooooooooooh............! I have a 'scribbler' here too. There's a patch like this in every room. Trouble is, you don't notice it after a while ;)
Posted by: asti | January 16, 2008 at 08:26 AM
Yikes. Good thing paint will cure the trouble.
When my brother was a toddler he used permanant marker on my parents' unmade bed. My mom THE ARTIST scolded him and then cut the sheet up and framed it as his first artistic endevour.
It WAS really good :)

I am with everyone else on trying Mr. Clean Magic Eraser... (Unless you already did:)
We were moving into an apartment & there was permanent marker on the closet door that the landlord & his wife had tried very hard to get off but couldn't. I used a magic eraser on it & they were amazed:)
Posted by: Chara Michele | January 16, 2008 at 08:46 AM
i hear ya -- i need to repaint the living room, the downstairs hallway, the stairway, the upstairs hallway, should do caleb's room (which i faux finished, of course, so it's not a simple 'slap on a coat of paint), and will have to figure out something on the louvered closet doors in 2 bedrooms.
i've not done anything about it until i am SURE he's outgrown the drawing on the walls thing (the other two never did this!).
Posted by: mamafitz | January 16, 2008 at 09:12 AM
Oh, I can't tell you how many times I have dealt with Sharpie. I have had purple Sharpie on the carpet in the girls' bedroom. No, it did not come out : / I had it on the custom built tv armoire my dh made. It did come out with magic eraser!!! And countless times on the walls, floor, bathroom counters, you name it, it has had sharpie on it LOL I have 7 kids, and the youngest two are 4 and 2, so I think I have many more years of sharpie encounters : )

oh, this is so familiar to me, only i was lucky that my little artist used washable markers.
lovely mirror frame :)
Posted by: Claudia Marchan | January 16, 2008 at 09:56 AM
One of my boys did that once. I actually got it to fade a little bit with Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser. It also worked on the trim work and wooden chairs. It didn't remove it completely, but faded it enough that it wasn't terribly noticeable to anyone but me.
Posted by: lera | January 16, 2008 at 10:15 AM
I'm gonna have to add another vote to Magic Eraser. We're laying floor right now and my mom is using a sharpie to mark where she needs to cut and some of the sharpie remains on the wood...Magic eraser got it off.
Also, I got sideswiped by a citybus and they ended up paying us a small sum to get my car repainted. My husband had it in his head that he could try the magic eraser and let me tell you - it got all the black paint from the city bus off! Quite an expensive magic eraser the busline paid for!

Black perm. marker on my wood floor! EEEEAAAKKK! Kids are fun!
Posted by: Lola | January 16, 2008 at 10:26 AM
Not funny but still puts a grin on my face. When my oldest was small she went around the house and put red X's all over the house. I was finding them for weeks.Hope you can get it off without painting!
Posted by: Cindy | January 16, 2008 at 10:49 AM
Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch!!!!
I was getting ready to comment and say "Have you tried the Magic Eraser?" But it looks like, from a quick scan of the comments, 40 people have beaten me to the punch....
But seriously, I bought them by the gross for my preschool classroom. They even got Sharpie off of walls and furniture (from when my moronic co-worker, with whom I shared the room, let 18 month-olds play with Sharpies!) Don't scrub - they can take the paint off. Just go over (and over and over and over) it very gently with the Magic Eraser...
