thrifty thursday

sheets

I couldn't stand it any longer - I had to get out of the house (and I had to spend some money).  What better thing to do than to pop into a thrift store?   Wow, I really scored today!  I found oodles of vintage pillowcases, vintage sheets, and these great old sewing books.  I *love* these books!  I always check the book section, but this was the first time I ever found anything I wanted.  These will be a nice addition to my collection of sewing books.

I promise, this year I am going to do something with all the fabulous linens I've been collecting.  Right now I'm envisioning dresses for Ava, tops for me & Lily, and a whole line of springy, girly handbags.  I should probably start working on that now, as spring will be here before we know it.

Speaking of vintage linens, have you heard about the Handmade Parade's Vintage Pillowcase Challenge?  Go check out the details and put your thinking caps on.  You have until the middle of February to enter, so get busy!  Oh, and if the thrill of a challenge isn't motivation enough, the grand prize is a $50 gift certificate to Sew, Mama, Sew, Reprodepot or Superbuzzy.  How awesome is that?  I can't wait to see all the wonderful ideas this challenge will surely produce!

One more thing - the grand total for my 11 pillowcases, 3 sheets, and 5 books - $15.  Not bad.

The pillowcases are so pretty! I like the ones with the red flowers best.

So glad you're feeling better!

Great score girl, glad your feeling better!!

I love thrifting. What wonderful treasures you scored.

very nice! sounds like you need to get to work. Glad you're up and about!

I'm so glad that you are up, out, and about! I was worried that the bug still had you out of commission...

Very nice haul, there! And you know something funny? As I was looking at your books, I thought "Why does that seem familiar somehow???" I got up, I wondered over to the bookshelf, and lo-and-behold!, I *have* that BH&G How-To sewing book. Seriously, that exact one... My mom gave it to me years and years ago, after declaring that it was the most excellent resource. (Sadly, I've not so much as opened it...but now, maybe I'll flip through the pages before bedtime???)

You always find the cutest stuff. You must have some great thrift shops in your neck of the woods.

Sounds like you're feeling better!

oh please do share where you thrift! :) You found some great stuff and I'm always looking for great places locally! :)

I hope this means you're feeling better. I'm excited to see the wardrobes that will arise from these stacks!

What a great thrift find!
was checking them out on flickr too :) Lucky girl. Hope you are feeling well!

Shopping...and getting great deals no less...always makes me feel better!!!

Crikey we don't have stuff like that in our thrift stores,(which we call charity shops here in the UK.) I love the fabrics that you found;-)

These pillow cases are great! They bring back memories for me of the sheet sets at my grandparents' lakehouse! :)

What a great find! I know you are going to make some fabulous things with those pillow cases and I can't wait to see - you are so inspirational! I have a couple pillow cases that I got last summer at an estate sale and still haven't done anything with them. This link you posted will be a great motivator to get going on them!

Happy Friday!

Are you kidding me? All of that? I have to admit there is a tiny tinge of jealously in my typing but that's only because it's been slim pickings around here (minus the cool curtains I recently picked up!). But springy is definitely the right word! Can't wait to see the results!

oh, i am so jealous! those linens are great!

Woohoo! Beki, those are TERRIFIC finds! I don't think I've ever found such a tall stack of pretty pillowcases in one outing. I hope this means you're feeling better and are ready to roll! XO

Wow! Those are awesome. I haven't been thrifting in forever. I need to go soon. There is nothing better than beautiful vintage pillowcases!

I am in love with the fabric in the top left of the bottom photo... I really need to find some thrift shops near me!!

way to go beki! i am having some serious envy over here!

I love vintage bedding. I buy it though and seldom cut into to it. That needs to change!

umm yes you did girl!! SCOOOOREE!!!

Very cute! I'm glad you're feeling well enough to be up and about. Can't wait to see the wonderful creations you make out of these. You inspire me...I always want to dust off my sewing machine after visiting you :) Have a great day!

Daiquiri

you're so lucky! i never find stuff this good! at least, not in linens...I found some cool vintage pillow cases (oops...need to blog about those) at a half antique half thrift store out of town somewhat recently, but i never find good stuff in my local thrift shops. and the books...score! :)

Where did you get those vintage fabrics!? I love them!

wow...you scored big time! those linens look fabulous!

wow...i'm jealous.

Wow, I really have to try thrifting. I don't even know where to start.
Great scores!

I am so jealous, those pillow cases are awesome! Martha Stewart had a tutorial in the October or November issue to make purses from pillowcases. They were very cute and easy.

There's little in this world that can thrill me like fabric, books and a bargain! You won the trifecta for sure!

some girls have all the luck, she says a bit jealously.

Great finds! I am going to goodwill tomorrow, hope I find something interesting.

Oh man, I am seriously jonesin' for a trip to the thrift store now. I have never scored like THAT before! I bow before you...

Great finds! I love thrifty goods!

Love these and the colors! Your thrift store seems awesome. "Mine" is always hit or miss. :)

You found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! Thrift store rainbow, that is.

I'm so jealous about that stack of beautiful vintage linens! Congratulations!

That looks like you had a successful thrifting trip:)

What a score with those pillow cases!!!!

I just stumbled upon your blog. I'm so jealous of your fabric find! Earlier today in fact, I posted a picture of a vintage children's fabric I found in perfect condition at the thrift store. Maybe one day I'll hit the jackpot like you did!
