houston, we have a problem
Hmm, now that I've been moving furniture back into my kitchen/dining area, I don't like it so much. The change in the wall color and floors make me want to change everything!
It all started with this magazine cover. Oh, how I love this! I decided that I was going to make a quilt for my table in the colors of my kitchen. That seemed like a good plan until I started thinking about the colors in my curtains. Uh, I'm kind of tired of that. I think it's too much, too frou-frou, too muddy. I made those curtains to match my cabinets, but now that the cabinets are white, I don't exactly need them to match anymore. What I want is something solid, maybe simple linen panels ibn a light color with some sort of woven shade (like bamboo or something). I think that would be nice.
Then there's the issue of seating. Since Rachel posted about turning her eat in kitchen into a living area I've had that on my mind. I don't think I can get rid of my table, but I can make the seating more comfortable. I want a bench with a back on one side, something with a cushion and throw pillows, and new dining chairs. The chairs we have now are bulky, old, rickety, and not comfortable at all.
To add to the "living" theme, I've moved my buffet & hutch into my living room, and moved this old cedar armoire in. That armoire will eventually house the TV, which will then free up some counter space.
Oh, and as a total coincidence, I just received this vintage tea towel in the mail fron Angelique, which I LOVE. How fabuluos are those colors? I love them so much that I've decided that these will be my new kitchen colors and inspiration for my table quilt. I love the combo of gray, yellow, brown, and peach - they look surprisingly well with the green on my walls.
If only I could snap my fingers and have it all done!!! A girl can dream, can't she?

can't wait to see what you come up with :)

I had to laugh at this. A while ago I bought these wild, bright, red/purple/orange/green glass coasters, but I found I never used them because they didn't go with my Aboriginal art placemats. So after a while I had to make crazy patchwork placemats to go with the coasters. Then I had to paint the dining room walls to go with the placemats, and then I had to make new curtains to go with the walls!!!

I am totally in love with that tea towel! you know, my mom has kept her table, but uses wingback chairs for the "mom" and "dad" seats. Let me tell you, that is a dining table where a person wants to linger.
And, you are just the sweetest for the kitchen love you sent my way!

I think that tea towel is great inspiration. I always find it funny how change inspires change.

I don't know who first said it, but it has applied to every place I've ever lived:
When you've finally got everything in your house exactly the way you want it, it's time to move!

I love the cover of that magazine as well. Those are all great ideas you had, i especially like the colors you chose. Those will be great once we get that spring and summer sunlight.

Decorating is all very "if you give a mouse a cookie" isn't it? Which is why my house looks like a** and you'd never know I have a degree in interior design. I have far more taste than money or energy so if I can't do it perfect I just don't do it at all.
The magazine cover is great. It looks so cozy and relaxing.

The cover of that magazine is fantastic! Very beautiful indeed. I wish I had more of a dining area, but now it's bogged down with all of my sewing stuff and now a new computer desk. Oh well. I do like the idea of a quilt table cloth though.

Ah, isn't our discontentment always prompted by some silly magazine?! For some reason I stopped getting Pottery Barn in the mail and haven't missed it one wink. Sure it's inspiring, but it also caused me to mope about hating everything I wanted to change! I'll bet your kitchen is beautiful!
LOVE the table quilt idea!

Oh man, that magazine cover is such a great look! Excited to see you come up with a similar quilt for your table - how pretty!
Love the tea towel too! Great colors!

Ha! Beki, I had the same thoughts when I got my Country Living in the mail. Sweet cover...! I like where you are going with this. I do like your curtain/blinds idea, although I also like the ones you've got already. Have to admit, Rachel's room redux had me thinking as well.
I'll never be done with my house either. I'm about to attck my kitchen before too long...But it is fun, isn't it??
Gorgeous tea-towel, too.

I can´t wait to see it, when finished. the rowel looks great, but I hope, the quilt will not contain to much grey and brown, cause of the muddy look ;)... but you´ll make it look great, I´m sure :)

My kitchen is the same color! I like the idea of putting the tv in the armoire. Do you have an Ikea near you? I got inexpensive matchstick blinds from there. So then if you want to change them, you won't feel so bad because they're cheap!

I have always dreamed of being like Samantha on "Bewitched" and just twitching my nose and TA-DA, everything is done! LOL wouldn't THAT be nice!
Anyway, I love the colors in the tea towel, I can't wait to see the quilt for your table, I may have to copy your idea : )

I love the idea of making it more of a living space. I do like the white curtains and the cabinet you moved in. It will all come together! What a fun project.

My mother in law tells me that as soon as you finish the last room in your home, you'll be ready to go back and re-do the first place you started. Comforting to know!

Hello, I envy the work you are doing on your kitchen. I live in a house that is over a hundred years old. When it was built there was no electricity and when it was finally installed the wires were placed on the outside of the walls instead of the inside! My kitchen needs a major make over and I am anxiously waiting for the big day.

I'm glad someone else is going grey! With Fabric, of course! I'm in the middle of recovering my sofa in grey linen- love the colours in the tea towel....
