almost done
Last night I got the fiesta dress all sewn up, on the machine that is. I still have LOTS of hand sewing to finish (thanks to my eliminating the front bodice lining) and the hem to complete. The good news is that it fits. The bad news is that I'm afraid it might grow. It is linen, you know.
Overall, I'm pleased with the dress and think that it is a very flattering fit (as far as I can tell). As much as I fought with it, I may make another. This time I'll actually follow the fabric suggestions and go by the specified directions! When I eliminated the front lining, it confused things a bit. I wasn't able to use the directions because all the directions involved that darned lining. I really couldn't line the bodice because the fabric was too heavy. See what I mean?
Now that I'm pretty certain I'll be wearing the dress Saturday night, my thoughts have turned to accessories and shoes. I'm still undecided on the shoes (thinking tan strappy slides), but I'm pretty sure I'm going to wear that orange necklace and earrings. Too much? I feel like I needed something to break up all the green. I'll probably chicken out and not wear the orange, I don't know.
I promise, when I get it finished I'll model it for you.

Definitely wear the orange!!! Cmon! Its a fiesta! You've got to go all out!

Oh definitely wear the orange jewelry with that dress. It'll set off the green very nicely. You could also get a small vibrant clutch to accompany the ensemble. Congrats on making your own fiesta dress. Have fun at the party. :-)

Awesome outfit with the perfect colorful accessories. I'd go neutral on the shoes and keep the attention on all the wonderful color above the knee.
What a beautiful project. Great fabric and it makes me want to do more clothes sewing.
Good luck and have fun!

The orange jewelry will give the outfit a wonderfully retro feel. So if you're feeling retro for the event, go for it. Sarah J has a great idea to toss in an orange bangle, too! I like how you can take the dress in a more classical direction with metal or pearl jewelry. Or tie the waist tie and add a big flower pin in a punchy to cover the knot for a different look. I'll have to get this pattern -- it's such a cool, versatile dress. And the fabric is great!

Lookin' good! I agree with everyone else that you should wear the orange jewlry.
As for the lining, next time you can try lining it with a cotton batiste which is super soft and light.

I love the combination of green and orange! You most definitly should wear them! And a quick little hint with the lining thing, if you use a lighterweight fabric in a similar color, you can use that as the lining or facing and significantly reduce the bulkiness. Sometimes I have done that with pant waistband facings when the fabric starts to become too bulky, it gives you the smooth fit you are going after, without all of the hand sewing! You will also see it on the underside of a collar on some jackets/blazers as to reduce bulk. :) I hope that helps.
