thinking about...
These are the types of things that go through my head at night before I go to sleep. I should have been sleeping when I wrote this, but for some reason I couldn't (I'm blaming the sinus medicine).
- color washing an armoire
- what color should I go with - white? taupe? something else?
- slip covers
- monogramming pillows
- white twill or natural linen?
- should I buy that secondhand wingback?
- how can I make an ottoman for my living room?
- painting my rocking chair
- Ava's birthday in a little over a week
- how is she 2 years old already?
- should I do a taco bar for her party?
- how about margaritas?
- summer dresses for Ava
- a tote bag for Alex
- will Lily still wear clothes I make her?
- the exposed selvages on my dining room curtains are bothering me
- how should I hang those plates on the wall?
- do I have enough to hang?
- I really should get those River Road prints framed
- I want a table skirt made out of burlap
- do I have time to paint the kids bathroom this weekend?
- rugs for the kitchen
- will we ever get around to tiling the counter tops?
- will I ever make my table quilt?
- I like having real flowers on the table
- daisies sure last a long time
- what kind of pillows should I make for my dining table bench?
- will I have a bench in time for the party?
- where did April go?
- should I work on publishing my purse patterns?
- will anyone buy them?
- do I have the technical skills to make them?
- where in the heck is my ID badge for work?
- is there a load of laundry in the washer?
- why am I not sleeping?
- why am I watching the Real World?
*sigh*
P.S. I bought the wingback today, next on the agenda - a slipcover!

This cracked me up -- it's SO me!

The patterns? Yes. Build it and they will come. ;-) The countertops? Don't Do It! I've been living with tile for 8 years and I HATE it! I'm counting the days until we can get new countertops. Grout is a pain in the rear to keep clean and you can't roll pie shells or cookies or pizza dough or anything out on tile. Gag, oh gag me!!! ;-)
Posted by: Thimbleanna | April 22, 2008 at 06:39 PM
whoa. I'm amazed you get any sleep at all.
Posted by: Miss Huckleberry | April 22, 2008 at 06:40 PM
Boy, this could easily be me + my list. Of course my list varies from yours, but I'm so with you...sometimes I lie in bed and make a mental list of all the things I want to do and accomplish. I then write them down in my "to do list" pad. Gosh that list is getting long!
I totally agree, where the heck did April go??
Posted by: kat | April 22, 2008 at 07:05 PM
I definitely lie in bed and make lists too, sometimes it helps me get to sleep! You definitely have my vote on the patterns, I'm still loving that granny bag you made over the weekend!
Posted by: Katie | April 22, 2008 at 07:12 PM
oh, i think we live parallel lives. I was up so late last night thinking about lots of stuff too.
I am glad you bought the wingback chair!
I love linen pillows (to go with your curtains) and i must say, I do love the salvage edge on them.
Yes tacos! they are my favorite! make them for the party.
I have often thought about having my husband make a big wooden box, cover it with batting, and slipcovering it and calling it an ottoman.
I love your purse patterns. i would buy them, i am sure you can do it.
Oh, and i hope you sleep better tonight!
Posted by: katie | April 22, 2008 at 07:21 PM
Gee ,what's in that medicine?????
Posted by: Anina | April 22, 2008 at 07:24 PM
You should make a book with all your patterns! I know people would buy it up in a heart beat! If you do, I want a signed copy :)!
Posted by: Natalie | April 22, 2008 at 07:26 PM
I have an absolutely on the pattern purchase question! I was thinking about asking you, but didn't want to step on toes...
About the other stuff? We women are such multitasking, analytical creatures. Men simply couldn't handle it. ;)
Posted by: ariana | April 22, 2008 at 07:42 PM
OK, .... Girl.... get some Lunesta and a glass of wine.... and GO TO BED ALREADY! ;-) Seriously, this is how I was before I went to therapy and found out I was A.D.D.... Now, I sleep like a freakin baby! I read for an hour and I'm off to dreamland! ... and for the record... I want a signed copy of your book/pattern too ;-) and for sure - do the burlap table skirt, and do BOTH twill and linen pillows... with a monogram on them... a great big one... (BTW, Royal Std. had some already monogrammed... might be easier to just go pick them up!)

I'm glad I'm not alone with the random thoughts at night! I think it's time for a glass of wine. :)
Posted by: Stephanie | April 22, 2008 at 08:24 PM
LOL Beki, your brain sounds kinda like mine ; )
Oh, and just an FYI, I would definitely buy your purse patterns!
Posted by: Tonya Richard | April 22, 2008 at 08:29 PM
This pretty much sounds like my thought process every night before I go to sleep.
Oh, and if you decide to hang he plates, don't use those new stick on hangers. If any humidity gets to them (aka. boiling water) they will unstick and crash to the floor. It happened to me. :(
Posted by: Rachel | April 22, 2008 at 08:33 PM
Love it! I do the same thing. No wonder we can't sleep!
Posted by: Sarah Jackson | April 22, 2008 at 08:39 PM
Woman! You've got to calm that anxious heart my dear. Although, I agree with Sarah... I do the same thing!
Posted by: Jade | April 22, 2008 at 08:42 PM
(I'm delurking here...)
just so you know, my brain does the EXACT same thing when I take sinus medication - I don't sleep (even though I take the night-time version) and I redecorate my house/plan my lessons (I'm a teacher)/relive conversations with people a million times over in my mind.
I thought it was just me!
I have, however, found some peace by taking one additional Advil/ibuprofen to the night-time dose of sinus medication and it knocks. me. out. solid.
Which is just what you need when you have a sinus headache! Feel better soon!

Oh, I feel for you! I think racing thoughts are typical for us "creative type" people. So many projects, so little time.
That's OK - list making is like counting sheep. Eventually it exhausts me and I fall asleep.
Posted by: Pam | April 22, 2008 at 09:49 PM
Oh my gosh, I could have written a list just as long myself last night! I was writing blog posts and creating a new flickr group in my head at 1:30am when I would much rather have been sleeping, LOL!
Posted by: Lisa Clarke | April 22, 2008 at 10:17 PM
Haha! This is so the way of us women! I love how stream-of-consciousness your list is--I can tell that one thought led to another and you just couldn't turn it all off.
By the way, our little guy was born last Thursday! Come over to my blog and check him out. :)
Posted by: Kristena | April 22, 2008 at 10:21 PM
I am so glad I am NOT the only person who does this!! It must be a creative thing!
Posted by: Lisa snider | April 22, 2008 at 10:28 PM
I feel you... I don't bother getting into bed unless I have pen and paper on the night stand! I saw some great River Rd. pics the other day at this place called Bayou Country(I live on the northshore)... loved them! Your post has made me feel the need to create a new list- that's weird, right? :o)
Posted by: Lacey W. | April 22, 2008 at 10:33 PM
Good grief, that's quite a list! I do the same thing too, so I'm smiling as I read this.
Margaritas are good. So are tacos.
Yes, publish your purse patterns. Of course people would like them :)
I had just about given up on my son wearing the clothes I made for him, but he's been wearing something homemade every day for the last four days, so their interest in it comes and goes...perhaps involve Lily in the creation process? Have her pick out the patterns and the fabric...
Posted by: Amy | April 22, 2008 at 10:36 PM
yep, me too. I wrap up each nursing session unable to shut off my mind. Except I never have a pen handy. Silly me!
Posted by: stacy | April 22, 2008 at 10:59 PM
oh, I hear you. I have similar thoughts running through my head. usually at 3 am. oy. and good luck with that slip cover.
Posted by: amandajean | April 22, 2008 at 11:09 PM
My list is just as long at night and sometimes I have to get up and write it down or my mind just keeps repeating it over and over and over.
My husband thinks I'm a little crazy. Maybe I am?
Posted by: Missy | April 22, 2008 at 11:29 PM
Oh, I have nights like this, spining and spining. The only thing that helps a bit is writing it all down to get it out of my brain. You know, I bet our spouses never do this head dance, at least mine doesn't :)
Posted by: cindy | April 23, 2008 at 12:34 AM
It's so hard when are bodies are so tired and crave sleep but our minds wont cooperate and keep on going. Running through our mental to do lists and "what if worries". Awk! If you find a solution let me know. BTW...so glad you wore your green dress to the Fiesta. You look beautiful!
Posted by: erin s | April 23, 2008 at 01:37 AM
I do that too.... Not nice at all!
First of all: YES! You should publish a book with your patterns! I am sure a lot of people would buy it! I know I would....
I wonder how long Viola (3 years) will wear the clothes I sew for her, and I have found that the more I involve her in the process of choosing fabrics and the actual sewing, the more she likes the finished product.
Posted by: Tine | April 23, 2008 at 01:41 AM
pfff same problem here, only I wake up way to early and although really tired, just can't fall asleep again. My mind totally goes in overdrive, but I'm too tired to write all my ideas down, really weird, what's even worse is, that on days that I do have to get up early, I can hardly wake up!!! Oh and about those purse patterns.... please please please do something with them, cause I LOVE them!!!!
Hugs from Holland
Posted by: Brigitta | April 23, 2008 at 04:05 AM
Wow...all of this? I wish for you a peaceful and quick sleep tonight:)
Posted by: Shannon | April 23, 2008 at 06:05 AM
LOL! You certainly have a very busy mind. I get the same, too, except it's about the most riveting topics to blog about. Unfortunately, I've forgotten them all by the morning.
Posted by: Jade | April 23, 2008 at 07:29 AM
Isn't it amazing as women how our minds never stop running!!!! :) It drives my husband crazy!...by the way the flower picture is beautiful! You should get that one blown up and framed.
Posted by: Stephanie | April 23, 2008 at 08:22 AM
Becki I do the same thing. It must be a woman thing. I would definitely buy your purse patterns
Posted by: Jennifer | April 23, 2008 at 08:28 AM
yup.
i hate when i can't shut my mind off - and i hate that men don't understand that.
Posted by: kirsten | April 23, 2008 at 08:43 AM
I agree with Thimbleanna! The patterns? YES YES YES Can I buy one now? The countertops no. I have tile countertops and counting the months (until we can spend the money) to get granite. The grout is a nightmare to clean not to mention if something like cranberry juice or something that is known to stain get spilt it does just that it stains the grout.
Posted by: Hannah | April 23, 2008 at 08:53 AM
glad to know someone else stays up and thinks these things!
Posted by: amy | April 23, 2008 at 08:56 AM
Don't forget to put me on the list to be the first to buy your purse patterns.....Wait till your older and you'll have list like , I should have done this, I should have done that, and Why!!!!!!
Thats what being young is all about lists....
Love all the things you do and write.....

I hate it when I have nights like that. Maybe you will get some sleep tonight.
Posted by: Blakely | April 23, 2008 at 09:37 AM
Your bags are amazing and I would definitely buy a pattern. I am terrible at following patterns, but I would give it a shot!
Posted by: Tina | April 23, 2008 at 09:38 AM
Heh. Knew you'd buy the wingback. Rock on, sistah!!! Can't wait to see it.
And yes, this is what nighttime is like around here, too. Usually followed by an 'ACK! Amen.'
And people would totally buy your purse patterns. xo
Posted by: miss chris | April 23, 2008 at 09:47 AM
I've had many a night with similar thoughts, my friend. Can't wait to see the wingback, before and after.
Posted by: lera | April 23, 2008 at 11:43 AM
Yep I've got one of those lists too. Just when I think it's all done I add more to it. The taco bar idea for her party sounds like fun. Make everything ahead of time and then you can enjoy the party.
Posted by: Sara | April 23, 2008 at 01:25 PM
And at some point you wake up and think, "Now, where was I?"
I hear you Beki!
Posted by: africankelli | April 23, 2008 at 01:34 PM
dude. that sounds like me.
except i don't serve full meals at parties. i just do veggie tray, fruit tray, chips, dip and popcorn. plus the cake, ice cream and sorbet.
and drinks.
like, duh. we have to have drinks.
and yes, i've been known to put rum in in mine at the parties.
Posted by: capello | April 23, 2008 at 03:43 PM
This is soooo me!! It's really bad when you wake up in the middle of a peaceful sleep to ponder and then can't get back to sleep!
Posted by: Christi | April 23, 2008 at 04:53 PM
I love lists - and I think it is great how open you are about letting all of those feelings out. It seems like the only way to make something happen is to actually say it, or I guess in this case, type it out! Good luck on all of your tasks! Oh, and why not make some bag patterns? Your bags have a great look and they also look feasible to sew - something most people really want out of their sewing! :)
