Okay, I'll admit it, I'm crazy addicted to knitting. Insanely crazy addicted!!! All I think about is yarn and patterns and projects I could be doing. The only problem is that I'm a very selfish knitter - everything is for me, ME, ME! Well, I am knitting Lily a sweater, but as soon as I do a few rows on her sweater, I switch back to the 3 works in progress for myself. Is there a self help group out there - knitters anonymous? I think I'm in need of an intervention.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! There is such a different sense of joy in the knitting process when the finished product is yours. I confess that I'm always a little bitter (did I say that out loud?) when I knit for other people. I learned early on that it was a lot more fun to knit for myself, so I've gotten to be stingy in my old age *wink*. In the beginning I always knit for gifts and that grew tiresome almost immediately (and yet, it took until my thirties before I was brave enough to actually start telling people "No! I am knitting this for myself!") I always started something for me, and ended up giving it away to someone else, but no longer! I say knit it for yourself and love every minute of it.

I think there are only enablers, not support groups.

I feel the same way. I go in waves on the knitting, but when I'm in it, I'm in it. Too bad it takes so much longer than sewing, though.

Hello, my name is Kristen, and I, too, am a selfish knitter. And seamstress. And general crafter. It's pretty delicious, isn't it? Count me in!

Ha Ha Ha...that's pretty funny! I am the same way, but with sewing! I think it's ok to be selfish. It sure is alot of work to spend all this time making something and then just give it away! I hate making cute stuff for other people that I would rather keep to myself.

You won't get any help from me!
: )

I'm sure there is a knitter's anonymous group somewhere - sadly I'm not a member. I haven't been able to pick up the knack for knitting - I'm very jealous of people who know how to knit!

haha...i've been getting addicted to yarn myself, but for crochet! i am working on two afghans, but the one for myself is so much more fun to work on for some reason. would you say that is crazy? lol :)
nothing wrong with knitting for yourself - you deserve it!

I often remind my husband that knitting for myself is much, much less expensive than professional therapy : )

I'm not seeing a problem here.

Why do I feel like knitting - it's nearly Summer! I'm sure it's because of all the gorgeous things people like you keep showing off - keep up the good work I say!

I'll have to join you if you end up finding a group. I'm not knitting for myself but for other people. Maybe I need to change that (lol). I've yet to make me a sweater but that is on my long list of things to make.

I think I have just come out of the other side of a short addiction like that. I was knitting that much that I was getting pains in my hands and they were seizing up.

haha, I have started about 3 other projects for gifts, and I keep going back to things I want to knit for myself. It seems like we all have a problem!

Hmmm.
There is a "Selfish Knitters" Group on Ravelry. I'm not sure, though, if they are encouraging or discouraging the selfishness.

Well it should be about YOU. If knitting is relaxing and soothing for you, and calms you down, then knit your little heart out! I think it's lovely you found something you are obsessed with and makes you happy. You inspire others to do the same. Happy Knitting Day! (no further intervention needed at this time).

That is a LOT of knitting, Beki! You must knit all the time, everywhere LOL I am trying really hard not to get sucked back into knitting because I have so many things sewing related that need to get done. Once I start knitting, I don't want to do anything else.
