tie one on

Tie One On - dots

Back in November when Amy posted that the theme for Tie One On was polka dots, I knew that I had to participate.  I LOVE dots of all shapes and sizes!  So, tonight while I was watching American Idol I cut and I pressed, then in the hour between Idol and Nip Tuck I sewed this baby up.  Isn't it fun?  I am so wearing this next time we have a cocktail party.  Wait, I've never had a cocktail party, maybe once I get my kitchen finished I'll have to have one...and wear the apron ;-)

Tie One On - dots

I was really lazy in making this.  I used the bottom of a twin flat sheet for the apron.  It's really full, almost touching in the back because I was too lazy to cut it .  It doesn't bother me any, it's almost like a skirt.  The appliqued dots are left over from another project I did, so there wasn't much involved with that.  All I had to do was sew on the circles (with white thread because I was too lazy to change it to orange) and cut & attach the sash.  Oh yeah, at the last minute I added the orange rick, just because.  Can you go wrong with rick rack?  I think not.  Voila, polka dot apron!

Tie One On - March/April 2007

Too_front

Well guys, here it is, the result of my weekend therapy session - Tie One On March/April.  The theme was rick rack.  I had intended to use more, but after assembling the apron, I think the jumbo rick rack at the bottom was enough.  I think it's cute.  A little busy, but cute.

My original inspiration for it was the spring 2007 Hanna Anderson catalog.  I love those pastel dresses with the combo of fabrics!  Of course, my fabric choice and style are nothing like the H. A. catalog, but that's where the idea came from.

To make my apron, I used KwikSew 3066  for the upper bodice, if that's what you call the top of an apron.  I've used this pattern to make a top in the past, so I knew that it would accommodate the "girls".  I wanted this to be a halter style apron, but after sewing it together, I realized that wouldn't work.  The neckline was all wonky, it wouldn't work at all.  Luckily, my ties were just long enough to go to the bottom of the sash, so I went with it.  I think I like this style better.  Halter ties tend to bug me.

This was a fun project.  I'm usually a planner, so it was fun to wing it.  Other than the pattern piece for the bodice, the rest was trial and error, which is why my sash ties aren't long enough and the halter ties didn't work out.  I may have stayed up until 1am to finish it, but it was worth it!  Who needs sleep when you've got a fun sewing project to finish??

March Tie One On

Here is my March submission for Tie One On. I haven't done one in a while, but I couldn't pass this one up. The assignment was to make an apron for a doll or stuffed animal. This was my first attempt at making any sort of doll clothing. I'm not a fan! Those teeny tiny seams are a bugger - my sewing machine certainly didn't like sewing them. I probably should have sewn them by hand, but I wasn't up for that. The good thing about this apron is that it was super fast, maybe 30 minutes tops.

Remember when I said that I wasn't a softie maker? What in the heck am I doing making more bunnies? I made this bunny this past weekend just for the purpose of dressing her in an apron. I think Mrs. Bunny looks quite nice! Okay, no more softies for me!!!
