This is what I've been up to, well last night and this morning. I made these two skirts from New Look 6345. They're okay. I thought I'd like them more, but they're only so-so. I modified them to make them slip-on elastic waist skirts, so that hindered the pattern a little. I could get a much better fit if I had chosen to make them as designed with a zipper in the back. I'll save that for later, when I like my body a little more.
As you can see, I used some of my coveted Amy Butler fabric to make the second skirt. How do you like that photo? Lily took it. It was either that picture or one I took myself, but the finger prints on the mirror were too embarrassing. I've got to do some housework beyond the usual picking up of toys and wiping down the counters!
I made this skirt before we went on vacation, but unfortunately it doesn't fit *grrrr*. It's too tight around my lower belly. I'm sure it will fit in time, so it wasn't a total waste. I was totally bummed because I planned to bring it with me. My problem was that the first time I made this pattern I used a stretch twill, and this denim had no stretch at all. I'd like to make this one more time in a khaki stretch twill or something.
I really need to branch out and start making other things. When I sat down this morning and thought about it, I've made 8 skirts so far this summer. It started with these, then this one, followed by this one, and then there was this one. Do you think I have a problem? And I still have a few more fabrics washed waiting to be made into yet more skirts - a white linen one, a black print one, and another Amy Butler print. After that I'll stop, I promise. A girl can only have so many skirts! I figure when I get tired of them I can cut them up and make something else, right?
