For a while now I've been wanting to blog about my favorite things that decorate my home, really those things that make my house a home. I guess it's kind of along the lines of "corners of my home", but more specific to certain things.
The first thing I want to talk about is the table under my stairs. This table is special because it was made by someone in my family (a great-great somebody?) about 100 years ago. I love old things, and the fact that this is a family piece makes it all the more special. I need to ask my grandma specifically who made it because I don't have a clue. I think I'll tape a little card under the table with that information when I learn of it.
I love all the imperfections of this table. What I'm not too crazy about is the finish. My grandfather stained it dark and put many layers of polyurethane on it years ago. It's way too dark for my taste. I'm thinking about giving it a new coat of paint, something lighter and brighter. But at my rate of completing home projects, I may begin to like the dark finish again before I ever get around to re-doing it! Painted or left alone, I consider this a treasure, one that I plan to hold on to and consider myself lucky to have.
