Sorry to disappear on you, but my little family has been under attack by the flu bug for the past week. My goodness, what an ordeal! It seemed to affect everyone a little differently, but overall it was just plain awful. I'm the one who was the least affected, though I did run fever most of the weekend, but I felt fine. Oh well, it's behind us now, thank goodness!
The bad part about having a house full of sickies right now is that I missed a whole week of my life - right before Christmas!!! I'm desperately trying to play catch up. All the important stuff is mostly taken care, the rest I'm letting go.
When things like this happen, it really makes you take a look at your priorities. Though we weren't feeling our best, I value the down time that we were forced to take. When you're feeling crummy, snuggles in the glow of twinkle lights does make it better.
Another positive from all the down time is that I was able to spend lots of time with my knitting needles. I finished my first hat, which happens to be a gift. Wow, hats are quite satisfying. When I learned to knit I skipped over scarves and hats and jumped right into sweaters.
I think there will be many more small projects in my future, like this cowl that I cast on the other night. I had to use up a gift certificate to my local yarn shop so I purchased a few hanks of yarn for small projects.
Of course, I still love my big projects. I finished knitting this vest last night. I still need to weave in the ends and block, but I'm loving it so far. The yarn is so soft and cozy! Half way thorough the project I thought I messed up bad because I discovered that I had been using the wrong size needle. After trying it on I decided that I would try to make it work by making a much, much wider shawl collar. Thankfully, it worked and was exactly the look I was going for. I'll do a proper post when I get it completely finished.
