The other night I dreamt of rainbows. Rainbows, acid wash jeans and other very 80’s trends. The rainbow was on a phone, which then morphed into a different phone made of moon rocks with colorful jewels for buttons. All I remember about the acid washed jeans was that I was refusing to wear them. I may have sported them in 1985, but I wasn’t going there again. No way!
I’m not sure where all that came from, but the rainbow part may have come from the happy fabrics I’ve been playing with lately. Like clockwork, thoughts of spring turn me to my vintage sheets. I’ve picked up my hand stitched appliqué work again.
A small basket of scraps and a butterfly in progress has been sitting in the corner of my bedroom since late last spring. Not wanting to jump back in on an old project, I decided to appliqué a chicken. Once she was done, I started back in on that butterfly.
Last year I turned my appliqués into totes, but this year I think I’ll work on some mini quilts. I really like mini quilts. They’re all the fun of quilting, but with a little more freedom (I think) and so quick!
Miss Chicken mini quilt is almost complete. For this first one, I simply bordered the quilt with different fabrics, but I’d like to stretch myself artistically by adding a little something else. I’m not sure exactly, maybe some embroidery? a smidge of lace? a section of fancy stitches? For now I’m letting the idea percolate in my brain and evolve on its own.
I can’t wait to find out (and show you) where it ends up!
