How was your (long) weekend? Mine was full, so very full! If you follow on instagram, you already know most of this, but I wanted it all in one place with words :)

We kicked off the weekend with Lily’s birthday on Friday. Since we didn’t really have anything planned I decided to take her for a pedicure Friday afternoon. Mother-daughter bonding is always good, especially on birthdays. I let her pick out my color, so I am now sporting blue toenails. The pedicurist said that we have the same legs and feet. That’s a little weird.
Normally we would have had some sort of party with her friends, but we had early morning plans so we kept it low key - shrimp po-boys with family (her favorite) and cake afterwards.

Memorial Day weekend is always Jambalaya Festival weekend in our town. This year we decided to participate in the 5K and 1mile Fun Run events Saturday morning. Lily and I ran the 5K first, then Matt, Alex, and Ava ran the 1 mile. I’m so proud of all of us! That was my first time ever participating in a 5K. I didn’t die! And I wasn’t last! Y’all, I’m as slow as a turtle, but I finished.

After our run we all enjoyed a bowl of jambalaya. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten jambalaya at that time of the morning, but we were all hungry, especially after smelling it cooking. When it came time to give out awards, which I didn’t even realize happened, all my peeps went home with medals. Lily won 1st in her age bracket for the 5K, Alex, Ava, and Matt all came in 3rd in their brackets. I was so proud of all of them!!

Saturday evening was the big dance recital. My girls did such a good job!
Sunday brought church, a soccer game, and an evening out. Matt and I took Lily and some of her friends out to dinner and a movie to celebrate her birthday. Matt thought he might be out of place with all the girls, but it was fine. We all had a good time.

The girls all slept over, so Monday morning I had a house full of kids. French toast for everyone! By early afternoon all the girls had gone home. We had no plans for the day, so it was just us piddling around the house.

Much of the day was spent in and around the yard. A new play sprinkler and baby pool were purchased and played in. I planted some seeds in the garden and I finally recovered my patio pillows. We ended the day with a meal cooked on the grill.

Yes, it was full, but oh, so good. A perfect kickoff to summer. I couldn't be more ready!!
