You may have wondered why I haven't mentioned the BP oil spill, considering that I'm a life long south Louisianian. Well, honestly, the whole situation makes me sick. I'm disgusted, angry, horrified, and deeply saddened. The devastation and destruction is unfathomable.
I feel helpless, but there are some things we can do. There are many great efforts out there helping in the recovery of our coast. In today's New Orleans Tidbits I discovered this great t-shirt (image above) that I plan to order, and when available, we'll be drinking some of this.
Craft Hope has been collecting thousands of towels to help with the wildlife clean up, which is something I signed up to do (I need to get my act together!). If you have any old t-shirts or towels, there's still a need. Did I ever mention that Jade, Ms. Craft Hope herself, is coming to visit soon? Yeah, pretty awesome.
There's also an etsy group helping out as well. Again, when I get my act together, I'll be organizing a sale in my own shop from which a portion of the proceeds will donated to help clean up the coast or given to those families directly affected (I'm still doing some research). As helpless as I feel, YES, there are things I can do!!
P.S. I WILL continue to eat Louisiana seafood and am planning a short trip to the AL or FL coast in the near future, oil or not...the fisherman and tourism industry NEED us.
